Teaching online requires new skills and methods. Turku University of Applied Sciences offers professional training for online teachers given by a team of specialists. Learn how to utilise the possibilities of active online learning and teaching in your own subject area.

You will gain skills in online teaching methods, online learning materials, assessment and feedback, as well as creating your own online course. Participate in our course and get a student’s perspective, an experience that will give you a valuable insight into becoming a great online teacher!

The training follows principles of Turku UAS Innovation Pedagogy, i.e. learning-by-doing, collaboration and self-reflection. Theoretical knowledge is reflected in practical, authentic teaching situations and creation of online teaching materials.

•  Learn more about e-moderating and use teaching resources effectively
•  Help students achieve learning objectives with the help of technology
•  Find new solutions to old (or new) technical and pedagogical problems
•  Gain an understanding of how to include collaborative, active elements in online courses
•  Learn to use new technologies in teaching and get support from technical experts
•  Prepare an online course or parts of a course – have it all ready for next semester!

Target group: Higher Education teachers who have already completed teacher education and who have prior teaching experience and basic IT skills. No previous online teaching skills required. The course focuses on the pedagogy of teaching online, and as such does not provide technical training or technical support. 
Content: Teaching and Learning Online, Online Teacher’s Role, Online Course Planning and Design, Collaboration, Materials and Assignments, Assessment and Feedback, Work-life Orientation, Internationalisation, Self-reflection and Professional Development
Certification: Turku University of Applied Sciences, Innopeda for Online Teaching Certificate
Participant workload: 4 hours per week (some weeks including online meetings)
Teaching method: Learning by doing, cooperation, theoretical knowledge combined to practical skills, observation and analysis, guidance and support of experienced online teaching specialists, self-reflection and development of own teaching

All modules include assignments, activities, feedback and discussion for creating and developing online teaching materials and methods for your own subject teaching. In addition, at the beginning of the training programme, you will select your own study unit that you want to develop during the programme.
