Guests from Tianjin University of Technology were impressed by sunny Turku

In mid-May, TUAS received guests from Tianjin University of Technology, China. The visit was related to the university’s new Bachelor-level degree programme on Entrepreneurship, in which they want to include international competence as a central part.

The goal of the agreement between Tianjin University of Technology and TUAS is to strengthen the entrepreneurship-themed studies at both institutes. In terms of the agreement, Chinese students will study their third academic year at TUAS. An eventful day was organized for Dean Feixue Yang (in the photo on the left), Director of Department of Entrepreneurship Haomiao (Tina) Yu (right) and Director of Department of Business Administration Fen Su (centre), all from the International College of Business and Technology at Tianjin University of Technology. During the day, they got to know the representatives and activities of both TUAS and the City of Turku. The guests also got valuable information from the exchange students from Tianjin University of Technology currently studying in Turku.

A great day in Turku

Development Manager of International Business Cooperation Olli Hakala from Turku Region Development Centre opened the day with a speech on entrepreneurship in Turku. After this, the guests got to know team learning and the innovative learning environment at BusinessAcademy. The guests were convinced by the flexible, timetable-free concept of BusinessAcademy, in which the learning takes place in enterprises set up by the students themselves.

Versatile cultural competence is required in international meetings: according to a Chinese custom, the business card is given and received with two hands. This custom was effortlessly mastered also by Rector and President Vesa Taatila, who met the guests after lunch. The guests also got to know the innovative learning methods of TUAS at Sales Excellence Center, where Dean Liisa Kairisto-Mertanen and Principal Lecturer in Sales, Timo Holopainen, took care of the guests. The discussion was vivid and once again the points which are interesting about Finnish education were highlighted: modern teaching methods and constant cooperation with working life ensure the high quality of Finnish education.

Cocktails on the deck of Suomen Joutsen

The day was topped off by a maritime charity concert to celebrate the European Maritime Day.  At the cocktail event on the deck of Suomen Joutsen the guests met e.g. Mayor Aleksi Randell and got to enjoy the music of Turku Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Leif Segerstam.

The cooperation will continue with fine-tuning the details of the agreement and creating curricula. “This is a significant agreement, as it enriches the international relations and education of TUAS. The market is more and more Asia-oriented, so we can be really proud of getting this opportunity to deepen our cooperation with Tianjin University of Technology”, says Partnerships Manager Kirsti Virtanen from TUAS.
