TUAS goes Turku Pride

Turku University of Applied Sciences is proudly a part of Turku Pride week on 19–24 August.

The core message of the Pride events is: every one of us has a sexual orientation and gender identity, and the right to define them as we like – or, equally, the right not to define them.

“Everyone at Turku University of Applied Sciences also has the right to be themselves. In the demanding working life of today, competence is all that should matter.”

This is how TUAS’ Rector and President Vesa Taatila crystallizes the message of the Pride week in the world of higher education.

“Student Union TUO works relentlessly so that the students can be equal. The different backgrounds of the members of our higher education community are shown in all our activities. In TUO, everyone gets to be themselves. Diversity is a richness that all of us should cherish”, says Chair of the Board of TUO, Mikke Kuula.

Rainbow flags are flying on TUAS’ campuses for the entire week. Turku Pride is topped off with demonstration, park fest and evening party on Saturday 24 August.

Earlier in June, several universities of applied sciences participated in Helsinki Pride week by flying Pride flags.
