Senior Lecturer David Yoken elected as the Chair of the Board of Directors of the Fulbright Finland Foundation

David Yoken, Senior Lecturer in Music in the degree programme in Performing Arts at the Arts Academy at Turku UAS, has been elected as the Chair of the Board of Directors of the Fulbright Finland Foundation. He has previously served as Vice-Chair of the Board and been a member since 2014.

David Yoken is a versatile musician, percussionist, and pedagogue. Internationality and an innovative search for something new are reflected in his artistic identity. In his activities, he is a strong networker and builder of international contacts, especially in developing European and North American interaction. Last year he was awarded the Cross of Merit of the White Rose of Finland, conferred by the President of the Republic of Finland.

As the Chair of the Board of Directors of the Fulbright Finland Foundation, Yoken wishes to continue to develop the international activities of the entire Finnish higher education network. His extensive and active expert contacts have enabled receiving top experts in the fields of art and science to visit Finland.

In addition, his new role demonstrates how strongly universities of applied sciences have become a part of the Fulbright system, which is a significant achievement for the entire sector”, says Turku UAS’ Rector and President Vesa Taatila.

Dean of Aalto University School of Business, Timo Korkeamäki, was elected Vice-Chair of the Board. The eight-member Board of Directors is appointed by the Finnish Ministry of Education and Culture and the U.S. Embassy in Finland. The U.S. Ambassador to Finland serves as the Honorary Chair of the Board.

The purpose of the Fulbright Finland Foundation is to promote a wider exchange of knowledge and professional talents through educational contacts between Finland and the U.S. For example, the Foundation develops and manages scholarship programmes for students, scholars, and professionals from different fields, and offers internationalization services, supports the internationalization of education and research in Finland and aims at promoting the cooperation of higher education institutions in Finland and the U.S.
