The situation in Ukraine – we need to maintain peaceful study and working conditions

The shocking news from Ukraine touch all of us and may also create a sense of insecurity. The study and work environment at Turku University of Applied Sciences is safe, and we will do our best to support the members of our community and maintain peaceful study and working conditions.

Turku UAS has no staff or students in Ukraine. However, we have students from the countries involved in the conflict, and the situation may be especially hard on them. In our international operations, we adhere to the values and limitations provided by Finland and in a broader sense, Europe. We absolutely do not accept any kind of discrimination or inappropriate behaviour due to someone’s nationality or origin.

Student Union TUO also wants to remind everyone that the situation may be grave for students and encourages students not to hesitate with participating in discussion events and seeking other types of support. The Student Union hopes it can offer a sense of community and help with coping even in the most difficult times.

"However, we should all keep in mind our own responsibility as individuals to support one another and not to incite hatred, so that our study community remains safe for everyone also in the future”, says Chair of the Board of TUO, Matias Sillanmäki.

The Rectors’ Conference of Finnish Universities of Applied Sciences Arene has published a joint statement on the situation in Ukraine on 25 February 2022. We will inform the members of our community about the development of the situation and its possible impacts on the operations of Turku University of Applied Sciences.
