The NYTT 2022 exhibition at Kunsthalle Turku and Taiteen Talo presents the diverse works of artists graduating from the Arts Academy of Turku University of Applied Sciences.

The exhibition of graduation projects from the Arts Academy of Turku University of Applied Sciences presents works from 19 artists , each with their own, unique views and methods. The wide range of techniques varies from painting and drawing to photography and installation, while the materials include everything from textiles to ceramics and from natural materials to audio and animation. The themes of the exhibition are also wide-ranging, depicting the diverse approaches of the graduating artists to life and art.

“These four years simply flew by, and the past two years have felt quite hazy, to say the least. The alienating studying methods have undermined the sense of community that, at least to me, has been the most fruitful part of the studies. I’m thrilled that we’ll be able to celebrate our togetherness once more with this shared exhibition,” says graduating artist Juuso Valli.

“Many artists rely on art as their unique way of making sense of the world. This is also reflected in the pieces of the group of graduating artists. The pieces in the exhibition are diverse in terms of both expression and execution. Many of the pieces are built by combining various forms of art. Searching and experimenting are artistic methods that can sustain the artist’s work for years and years. It has been a great pleasure to guide the journey of the graduating students towards their artistic identity,” say Henna-Riikka Halonen and Ismo Luukkonen who instructed the students with their graduating projects.

This year, the NYTT exhibition expands from Kunsthalle Turku to the new Taiteen Talo (‘House of Art’) in the Rettig building that will consequently be opened to the public for the first time as a gallery space.
