Applications are submitted through the national online application website at www.studyinfo.fi.

Joint application means that you can apply to up to six (6) study programmes with one application form. These 6 options may include degree programmes from one or several different higher education institutions. 

Note that you can only confirm one study place per academic term. This means that if you have been accepted to several study programmes in one application or in several applications, you need to choose which place you wish to confirm. When you have confirmed a study place, all other study programmes that you have applied to and that begin during the same academic term will be cancelled automatically.

InfoFinland is a multi-language website providing reliable information to people planning to move to Finland and to immigrants already living in the country. InfoFinland is made in cooperation with the authorities, and the pages are constantly maintained.

You can apply to a Bachelor’s degree programme if you have completed at least one of the following:

• the studies required for graduating from the Finnish upper secondary school or a Matriculation Examination;
• an International Baccalaureate (IB) degree and/or graduated from IB high school with IB exam 6 results in different subjects (IB-certificate);
• a European Baccalaureate (EB) Diploma;
• a Reifeprüfung (RP) or Deutsche Internationale Abitur (DIA) degree;
• a Finnish vocational upper secondary qualification covering 120 credits or 180 competence points or a corresponding earlier Finnish vocational degree covering at least 80 credits;
• a Finnish post-secondary or higher vocational level diploma;
• a Finnish vocational upper secondary qualification or a further or specialist vocational qualification as a competence-based qualification, or a comparable previous qualification;
• a foreign qualification that provides eligibility for higher education studies in the country in question;
• Bachelor’s degree or Master’s degree.

Discretionary selection is used in SAT test selection. In certificate-based selection, the applicant must always hold a degree applicable to the selection method in question. The study place is conditional until the university of applied sciences has checked the information used in applying.

Requirements on health and functional capacity

The so-called SORA legislation applies to education leading to a UAS degree in the fields of social services and health care, humanities and education, sports and exercise and seafaring. These fields have requirements concerning the safety of minors, patient and client safety or traffic safety which restrict student admission. In these fields, it is required that health and functional capacity of approved applicants are such that they are able to take part in the practical assignments or training relating to studies.

In order to be eligible to apply for a UAS master’s level degree programme you must have completed a suitable bachelor’s level degree or other higher education degree and have a minimum of two years of work experience after the completion of the eligible degree.

In certain fields of UAS master’s degrees, that is Crafts and Design, Media and Visual Arts, Theatre and Dance, and Music, the work experience can be replaced with artistic activities and merits.

Please note that the Finnish Immigration Service does not probably grant a residence permit for TUAS’ Master School studies, if there are only two contact lesson days per month. Residence permit is not granted at all to degree programmes conducted online. In case the residence permit is not granted, the student may apply for a travel visa for the contact lesson days. Read more on the Finnish Immigration Service's website.

Work experience requirements

In order to be eligible to apply to Master's degree programmes, applicants must have at least two years (24 months) of work experience accumulated as from the date of award of the final higher education degree certificate and obtained no later than 31 July for the spring application period and no later than 31 December for the autumn application period. Specific requirements on the quality of the work experience is described in the admission criteria of the study programme option at Studyinfo.

Also work experience obtained after completion of a post-secondary or higher vocational level diploma in Finland (in any field of education) but prior to taking the higher education degree is accepted. 

Work experience must be verified with an employment certificate provided by the employer. An employment certificate must indicate details such as the exact start and end dates of employment, the employer’s contact information, work duties, as well as working hours for part-time work. If the employment continues, the applicant should request a temporary employment certificate from the employer. Employment certificates will be checked only from those admitted as students. Admission is conditional until all required documents have been checked.

If an original employment certificate is in a language other than Finnish, Swedish or English, the applicant must submit a copy of the certificate translated into Finnish, Swedish or English by an official (authorized) translator, indicating the translator’s name, signature and stamp, along with the copy of the original certificate. 

Work experience should be indicated in full months. When converting part-time work into its full-time equivalent, 150 hours or 20 working days lasting at least 7 hours per day correspond to one month of work. Work experience does not have to be continuous or obtained working for the same employer. The amount of work experience for simultaneous employment relationships may not exceed the amount for full-time employment.

Entrepreneurship will be accepted as work experience if an applicant can produce a certificate attesting that he or she is or has been covered under the statutory YEL or MYEL pension scheme (YEL = statutory pension scheme for entrepreneurs; MYEL = statutory pension scheme for farmers, forest estate owners, fishers and reindeer herders and their family members). Enterprising activities abroad should be substantiated with comparable official documents.

Instead of work experience, artistic activities of equivalent duration, verifiable by evidence such as a portfolio, may be required in the fields of Crafts and Design, Media and Visual Arts, Theatre and Dance, and Music (Act 932/2014).

In Seafaring, at least six months of officer service aboard a vessel approved by the Finnish Transport Safety Agency (Trafi), as per an extract of the seamen’s register, is accepted for the Master’s Degree Programme in Marine Technology (Master Mariner). An additional requirement is work experience in the seafaring field, either at sea or on land, to the extent that the above-mentioned officer duties and other seafaring work experience constitute at least three years of work experience add up to at least three years (36 months) of work experience.

Military or non-military national service, women’s voluntary military service or child-care leave will not be counted towards work experience.

In spring 2024 first joint application in January, you can apply to Turku UAS Bachelor's degree programmes with the SAT test results without taking an entrance exam. Only the new SAT (taken after March 2016) is acceptable. SAT Subject Test will not be considered. Check the test dates and register at CollegeBoard webpage.

Please note!

• Reports printed or sent by the applicant him/herself are not acceptable.
• The official SAT result report must be delivered directly from the test organizer to Turku UAS. The code for Turku University of Applied Sciences is 6867.
• The official SAT result report must be received by Turku UAS by 1 April 2024.
• You also need to fill in the national joint application form at Studyinfo during the application period.

Submit the required documents on the application form at Studyinfo. Contact the Admission Services by e-mail if you have any questions about the required documents.

• If the document is not in English, Finnish or Swedish, also attach its official translation. The official translation needs to have translator´s signature and stamp.
• A photo of the document taken with a mobile phone or camera is acceptable if it's clear enough to read.
• An applicant is responsible of delivering all the required documents by the deadline.
• If you could not submit the documents on the application form at Studyinfo for some reason, you can send the application attachments to TUAS Admission Services  with this online form .
• Possible pre-assignments must be delivered by the  degree programme specific instructions.

 Schedule for submitting application attachments in the 2024 joint applications

The admission results are published as soon as they are ready. Accepted applicants receive automatic email notification about the offered study place from Studyinfo immediately. All applicants will receive an email with a link to the admission results when all joint application results have been published (see the timetable). Please note that the message might end up to the trash mail folder.

The offer of admission must be accepted by the given deadline or the offered study place will be cancelled. 

Admission is conditional until the UAS has checked the required certificates. The admission will be cancelled if an applicant fails to submit certificates by the specified deadline, or if an applicant has provided false information.

An applicant may submit a separate application to request the right to individual arrangements for taking an entrance examination.

• The application should indicate the types of arrangements being requested and the grounds for the request.
• The applicant should enclose copies of the certificates to which he or she makes appeal. As a general rule, the statements should be not more than five (5) years old. The application contains more detailed information about the attachments.

If you need individual arrangements in entrance examinations, you need to fill in the application by the given deadline (see the deadlines for required documents above).

In cases where an issue entitling an applicant to individual arrangements already exists during the application period, an application for individual arrangements for entrance examinations must be submitted by the common deadline decided by the universities of applied sciences (see instructions, in Finnish only). The applicant must submit a separate application to each university of applied sciences to which he or she has submitted an application. A university of applied sciences may provide additional instructions, for example related to two-stage admissions. The application must be submitted to the admission services of the relevant higher education institutions.

If an issue entitling an applicant to individual arrangements emerges or is identified between the end of the application period and the entrance examination date, the applicant must submit an application for individual arrangements to the admission services of each university of applied sciences arranging the entrance examinations that he or she intends to take without delay. The university of applied sciences may deny an applicant the right to individual arrangements if such arrangements are impossible to implement, for example because of schedule-related reasons.

Individual arrangements for entrance examinations are specific to each programme choice and valid only on a specific examination date. Procedures indicated by good governance must be followed when making the decisions. The applicant will receive a notification (not a decision) about the individual arrangements sufficiently early before the entrance examination. Any attachments to applications for individual arrangements shall be secret.

If the applicant is a refugee, in a position comparable to a refugee or an asylum seeker and does not have documents in proof of his/her prior qualification, the higher education institution may consider the applicant for admission. Based on information requested from the applicant, the higher education institution offering the programme in question will decide if the information on the prior qualification is sufficient.

The applicant must have an official decision attesting to his or her refugee status (a decision to grant asylum or a residence permit issued on the basis of need for protection). The applicant must submit a copy of this decision to the admission services of each higher education institution to which he or she is applying by the deadline specified in advance (see the deadlines for required documents above).

In order to clarify their status, an asylum seeker to whom a decision has not yet been issued may present a photo ID issued by the Finnish Immigration Service, for example at an entrance examination, and should the higher education institution so require, also a certificate issued by the Finnish Immigration Service for a fee (EUR 20) stating that the applicant is legally resident in Finland while their case is being processed, or until a legally valid decision has been made.

In case an applicant can satisfactorily prove that the decision has not been made according to the admission criteria, he/she can make a written request for rectification to the Board of Student Affairs of Turku University of Applied Sciences within 14 days after receiving the decision on student selection.

Please note the following:

• favorable decision is possible only if all the eligibility/admission requirements are fulfilled
• decision can be changed only in case it has not been made according to the admission criteria
• it is not possible to change the admission criteria on the basis of an appeal
• it is not possible to supplement the application afterwards (late documents will not be considered)
• possible delays in getting the required certificates in time or delays in postal delivery do not take away applicant's responsibility of delivering all the required certificates by the deadline
• incapability to attend in the entrance examination, health reasons, difficult life situation, misunderstanding etc. will not affect the decision

Before writing the request for rectification, please read carefully the admission criteria of the study programme in question at www.studyinfo.fi and then contact the Admission Services by e-mail for more detailed information on the grounds of the decision: admissions@turkuamk.fi. When you have applied via Separate application through Open UAS, contact the Open UAS: avoinamk@turkuamk.fi. If after contacting you still think that the decision has not been made according to the admission criteria, you can make the request for rectification.

Request for rectification has to clearly identify what the appeal is concerning, and the justification for revising the original decision. Student admission decision can be changed only in those cases where it is clearly shown that the student admission criteria has not been followed. Therefore, the appeal must be well-grounded and it should contain accurate information on where the polytechnic/UAS has not followed the criteria. The request must also contain the applicant’s personal and contact information. Documents supporting the rectification are attached to the request.

Please note, that the request for rectification must be delivered by the given deadline at 3 p.m. Finnish time.

Please note that if you are under 18 years old when you start the studies in Finland, you are legally a minor and you can’t for example make a rental agreement for accommodation, electricity contract or open a bank account by yourself. Therefore, life in Finland as a minor student without parents can be very challenging.

Tuition fees are charged from students who are not citizens of EU/EEA countries and are accepted to English conducted Bachelor's or Master's degree programmes.
