NIKO II – Health Promotion in the Daily Life of Youth

The main purpose of the NIKO II – Health Promotion in youths’ everyday life project is to develop, implement and maintain concrete, multi-faceted health promotion activities for youths.

The main focus areas of action in 2019–2021 are youths in vocational schools, upper secondary schools and primary schools, peer pressure, participation in the implementation of activities, lifestyles and background factors for substance and nicotine use, support for parenting and the implementation of the models developed in the NIKO I project.

The long-term goal of the project is a healthy, nicotine-free, participatory and self-caring youth. The vision of the development work is to create regional, national and internationally competent operating models for supporting the well-being of young people and maintaining healthy lifestyles.

The project implements health promotion activities in cooperation with youths and their immediate communities (family, school and hobbies), through actions and target groups.

The operating models created in the project are intended to be integrated into a permanent part of the health promotion activities of young people. Thus, they are available and manageable for the use of youths and their communities, and become an integral part of the lives of young people, parents' access to information, and in-service training and teaching materials for education and social and health professionals.
