Before arrival

When you have received study place any of the academic universities or universities of applied sciences in Turku you can start organizing your arrival to Finland.

 Life in Finland -guide can give you all kind of information about living in Finland and especially in Turku however remember at least to confirm you study place before you start planning everything else.

First please remember to accept the studyplace as your own university has instructed you to do! If you do not accept your studyplace on time you will lose it so this step is vital.

 

Visa or residence permit and insurance

Then you need to start arrange visa or residence permit if you need one to arrive to Finland (remember also to get insurance). Note that it takes quite a lot of time to receive visa or residence permit so please start working on that as early as possilble. You can find information about visa in Migri's web pages:

Insurance: some universities have ties with certain insurance companies but you can always also use your own insurance company.

Arrival to Turku

You also need to start arranging your actual arrival (plane tickets etc. depending on where you are coming from). This you can do when you know exactly when you can enter to Finland that is have all visa etc. details done.

Also remember that you might need to take your original senior secondary school or Bachelor's certificates and work certificates with you. Check this from your university.

How to get to Turku

By plane

Turku Airport

The easiest way to travel to Turku is by plane. There are regular connections to Turku from Helsinki, Stockholm, Copenhagen, Gdansk, Riga and Alicante. 

From Turku Airport it is easy to travel to the city centre by taxi (airport - city centre 20–25€) or by local bus.

Helsinki Airport

If your flight takes you to Helsinki, you can travel easily to Turku by bus from the Helsinki Airport. 

The long-distance bus from the international terminal leaves from Platform 14, just in front of terminal.

By ferry

You can also travel to Turku by sea.

Ferries between Turku and Stockholm run twice a day, and between Tallinn and Helsinki several times a day.

By train or bus

There are regular intercity train and bus connections between Turku and other major cities in Finland.

Buses and trains between Turku and Helsinki run every hour. Both bus and train stations are centrally located in the city.
