Innovative – Simulation Pedagogy for Academic Development (iSPAD)

The international iSPAD project improves the utilisation of simulation in nursing studies. The main coordinator of the project is University of Malta. Eight other institutes of higher education participate in the cooperation, four of which are from Finland.

The project produces a simulation scenario package named NURSE-KIT. The package consists of three scenarios, one for each academic year in nursing studies:

1st academic year: healthy person with health risk factors

The environment is home care environment. The group is led by Cardiff University, other members being Turku University of Applied Sciences and University of Molise (Italy).

2nd academic year: follow-up of chronic patients and support for self-care

The environment is health centre. The group is led by University College Dublin – National University of Ireland (Dublin, Ireland). Other members are Lahti University of Applied Sciences and Satakunta University of Applied Sciences (Finland).

3rd academic year: nursing of acute patient with multiple conditions

The environment is home care environment. The group is led by Jyväskylä University of Applied Sciences, other members being Oslo and Akershus University College (Norway) and Middlesex University Higher Education Corporation (UK).

As the studies proceed, the scenarios become more in-depth and the requirement level increases. The scenarios are tested in practice during the project.

In the course of the project, also Simulation Champion instructor training will be organized, the main responsibility of which lies with University of Malta and Lahti University of Applied Sciences.
