The number of applicants for Turku UAS’ English-language programmes increased

The spring’s first joint application to higher education institutions ended last week, on 19 January. The number of applicants grew in all English-language degree programmes of Turku University of Applied Sciences compared to the previous year.

In the first joint application round of the spring, Turku UAS offered five Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programmes conducted in English. Two of the degree programmes lead to a Bachelor’s degree and three to a Master’s degree. The degree programmes attracted altogether over 1000 applicants. Most of the applicants come from outside Finland. The degree programmes offer altogether 110 study places.

The number of applicants for all degree programmes that had been offered in earlier joint application rounds also increased. The English-language Bachelor’s degree programme in Information and Communications Technology attracted the largest number of applicants. The second largest number applied for the new Bachelor’s degree programme in Social Services, which focuses on early childhood education. All Master’s degree programmes also attracted more applicants than the year before.

– It was a pleasure to witness that Finnish early childhood education competence also interests foreign applicants. In addition, the large number of applicants bodes well for the launch of the new degree programme, says Rector Vesa Taatila from Turku University of Applied Sciences.

The students are selected in the Bachelor’s degree programmes based on their matriculation examination certificates, the international SAT test which measures abilities to complete higher education studies and the International UAS Exam, which is now organized for the first time. The first stage of the exam is similar to the entrance exam in the Bachelor’s degree programmes conducted in Finnish, but it will be taken remotely on 9 February 2022. The applicants who pass the first stage are invited to the second stage of the exam, which will be a group interview in March 2022. Both stages affect the final score of the International UAS Exam. The results of the certificate-based admissions will be published after the entrance exam, at the latest by 30 May 2022.

There is no nationwide cooperation in the admissions to Master’s degree programmes. The selections are made either based on a preliminary assignment and interview, with certificate-based admission or with a remote entrance exam. The entrance exams will be organized in March 2022.
