Third place to TUAS students in the development project of Laitila’s Kasitie Business Park

Turku University of Applied Sciences’ (TUAS) team ”Leikkauspiste” reached third place in the intensive Laitila business park competition with the concept ”Idea-egg”, which combines businesses, people and ideas.

The competitive student project built around the development of Laitila’s Kasitie Business Park culminated with the final on 29 October 2014 at Laitilan Wirvoitusjuomatehdas. Turku University of Applied Sciences’ (TUAS) team ”Leikkauspiste” reached third place in the intensive competition with the concept ”Idea-egg”, which combines businesses, people and ideas. The team members were Katariina Harteela (advertising design), Zuzana  Kyppö (advertising design) and Heidi Miettinen (sales).

The student project kicked off with an introductory visit to Laitila and Kasitie Business Park on 24 September. The goal of the student project was to produce ideas for the development of Kasitie Business Park within the given themes in a fun and competitive way. There were five teams in the competition; two teams from TUAS and three teams from Satakunta University of Applied Sciences. The topics that framed the idea-generating process were cooperation of businesses, recycling and energy solutions, movement, construction and landscapes and building a brand.

During the Idea Day organised in Laitila on 8 October, the teams got an opportunity to refine their initial ideas with the help of lecturers and experts from Kasitie Business Park. TUAS’ team “Leikkauspiste” chose to improve the area’s visibility and build a brand. The final result was the “Idea-egg” concept which would improve the visibility of Kasitie Business Park and the companies located there, make the area more attractive and generate ideas and innovations.

The team’s vision was to make Laitila and the Business Park the Idea Centre of Finland.  “Leikkauspiste” achieved, deservedly, the third place in the competition. The first and second places went to teams from Satakunta University of Applied Sciences. The development theme of the winning team included the development of the whole area, multi-purpose use of the buildings and energy solutions.

Feel the competitive atmosphere through Youtube

On the Idea Day on 8 October and the day of the competition 29 October, the Sataedu filming team was present and they recorded the general atmosphere of the competition as well as interviews with the students. You can experience the competition all over again through Ideadrill’s own Youtube channel.

”The first jump” has now been taken

Kasitie Business Park’s development project was actualised as a part of the Kolmiloikalla vaihtovirtaa project, where the outlining of the cooperation in different forms is taking place between the Universities of Applied Sciences in Southwest Finland, Turku and Satakunta. The project has three dimensions according to its name: regional, national and international. The first part tests and develops different approaches of utilising the innovating power of students in order for it to be used for the benefit of local companies – exactly what was done in the Kasitie competition. In the bigger picture, Kolmiloikka and its activities are a part of the cooperation between TUAS and SAMK (www.coastal.fi).
